Our generation of young folks today are more diverse and into technology than ever before. We have 6 and 7 year old’s knowing how to navigate on a device better than any adult. Another issue that has been on the raise with our youth is bullying. From what our children see on TV or on any kind of social media plays a factor on.

They see celebrities who are thin who have the latest clothes, the newest shoes, and all that leaves a huge impression on their lives. Not all of us are blessed with rices or born with the proverbial “silver spoon” in our mouth. Some people grow up being chauffeured around their whole life while others simply get by.

Jennifer was a quiet 12 year old girl who always did what she was told, and never gave her parents any kind of trouble. Her dad worked at the best tow company Kansas City MO and so did her mom. The money was somewhat tight, but they all managed to get by at the end of the day. To pull in extra money Jennifer would run errands for her neighbor Ms. Anderson, she couldn’t travel as much. Jennifer saved whatever extra money she made so she could get a new pair of sneakers she was eyeing on TV.

The sneakers were seventy dollars and what she had so far was sixty so she was just ten dollars away from getting them. Jennifer was always getting made fun of by her fellow classmates in school. They would say she was poor and would buy her clothes from thrift shops, or find them in the trash. It bothered Jennifer every time she would hear them talk about her, but like always she ignored them. She watched how the girls would flaunt and brag about their name brand shoes, bags, and clothes.  They would even have cell phones that they would use to spread gossip and show off all the time.

Jennifer hated how they would tease her every single day, she continued to ignore the bullies in her school. One day after school Jennifer had to run a couple of errands for Ms. Anderson. Since it was a lot to do Ms. Anderson was going to pay her thirty dollars.  With that Jennifer knew for sure she would have enough for her sneakers. While she was at the pharmacy waiting for Ms. Anderson’s prescription two of her classmates came up to her. It was the same two girls who always teased her, they began insulting and making fun of her. Jennifer didn’t want to make a scene in the store so she ignored them.

As Jennifer was paying for Ms. Anderson’s prescription one of the girls snatched her purse and both girls ran off. Jennifer tried to catch them, but they were long gone. All her money that she saved was in that purse she didn’t expect anything like this to happen to her. It devastated, Jennifer felt that all her hard earned money was stolen by girls who already had everything.

Jennifer delivered Ms. Anderson’s medications and went home. When she walked in the house her father was sitting on the couch and her mother was cooking dinner. She looked at both of her parents then smiled as she hugged and kissed each of them. This is when she realized that losing her money was not the worst thing that could have happened. She had everything to be grateful for, she was fortunate to come home and admire the two best individuals in her life.

This is the moment in Jennifer’s young life where she learned a valuable lesson. There are some things money cannot buy.
